This is how my table plays the world's most popular TTRPG. It's a mashup of my favorite mechanics across editions, uses four races and four classes (separated) and converts all percentile skills to a more modern d20 system.

Simple character creation where character history matters, simplified saves, ability checks, slot based inventory and an approximate power curve in line with the games of the 70s and 80s.

This is a public playtest, not a system full of flavor and random tables but is perfectly playable out of the box. Take it, tweak it, do whatever you like with it.
